Interiors
Ever since Faye Dunaway acquired one of Martin Wojnowski’s early watercolours - a detailed interior of her Manhattan apartment in the early 1990s - interior spaces have remained a recurring theme and enduring fascination in his art. At the time, Martin was working as an illustrator for some of Britain’s most distinguished interior designers, bringing their visions to life through delicate, atmospheric renderings. Simultaneously, he collaborated with a renowned art restorer, a formative experience that allowed him to study firsthand the techniques and textures of the Old Masters. This immersion in classical artistry left a lasting imprint on his evolving style.
Over the years, Martin has been granted rare access to some of the most magnificent country estates in Britain and beyond - hidden gems of cultural and historical importance. These interiors, rich in period detail and filled with museum-quality furnishings, often served as more than just visual inspiration. They were inhabited by individuals whose sophisticated taste and genteel charm frequently masked layers of complexity and mystery. These encounters sparked a deeper artistic exploration, as Martin began to weave psychological nuance and narrative intrigue into his depictions of space—turning rooms into quiet stages where stories wait to unfold.
